Summer isn't quite here in France, so let's enjoy a last winter news.

Tiphanie and I were in Norway in the end of April for a 4* event in Roldal. Don't be mistaken the results counts for next years ranking.

Premier jour:

First Day:
After an early wake up, 4am, a bit less for Tiff that I woke up a minute before picking her up. Hopefully all her luggages were ready she just had to jump in her cloth and we were heading to Geneva airport. We decided to make a quick stop in Oslo in order to not spend all our day in means of transportation (car, plane and car again). The road to Roldal seems endless but surrounded of amazing landscape. We finally arrive around 7pm after more that 5 hours drive from Oslo.

Second Day: First contest day
The organisation changed the qualification face at the last moment for the best. The initial one was really not appealing. Unfortunately strong winds doesn't allow us to take the start. Nevertheless we enjoy what we know to be the only sunny day of the trip and went skiing the face anyway and enjoyed some resorts laps.

Troisième jour. Stand by et tourisme.

Third day: Standby and tourism
We didn't come to Norway to watch the bad weather through window doing nothing, so we chose to discover a bit the surroundings of Roldal to make something of our day. We took the direction of Oda to do a small hike that lead to a beautiful point of view on the Fjord.

Fourth day: Competition is on under the rain
We are happy to learn that we will run under the rain. Everybody has to hike up at the same time, so the boys will wait around 5 hours under the rain. On an other It was that or no competition at all and a trip for nothing if we reduce it to the contest. Anyway thanks Eider for the GoreTex equipment, it was useful even though my phone didn't survive this day. He drown and died. I end 4th after I abandoned the end of my line, it was so disgusting to ski with no pleasure (super sticky wet snow) that I wanted to end as fast as I could. I didn't go get my last drop. Shame that was the winning line. Well I know that I have to work my mental strength especially in bad conditions.
We end the day by a good party that closed this season.

Fifth and last day:
A bit stressful, we were asking ourselves all along the road if we would make on time to get our flight. 300km doesn't seem that long except when the speed limit is 60km/h and that all the Norwegians are strictly respecting it. At the end perfect timing thanks to the bus and taxi line that allow us to go around faster. A good improvised rally session. We are laughing about it now but not that much live.

Our little cabin for the journey

Merci Tiff pour les photos...

FWQ season is done

Excuse me for the late news. The winter flew by which is usually a good thing.

The trip of the winter was the discovery of Slovaquia by skis. You can find pictures in the following articles, for the text the last is the only one in English.

Then as usual the month of March was busy on the competition side with a contest almost every week-end. The last one being Obergurgl where I had to win if I wanted to access the FWT. I ended 2nd missing the qualification of only 100 points and ending third on the general ranking (only the 2 first one being qualified).

That's it for the results  but which experience did I get from it? First it was the best I had since I started Freeriding. There is not secret, dedicating all my time to it to improve my skiing is the key. Obviously I am a bit disappointed as I was so close to qualify but I will try again next year. On top of it I had other self accomplishment such as graduating my Master and finding a job related to my studies so I am putting things in perspectives.
Then there is all the human experiences I have the chance to live each season. As we are struggling to find fundings to compete, we usually share cars and accommodation in order to make it the cheapest. In that context I meet each year new people with the same passion and get to know better the riders. I guess my globe-trotter side is also enjoying that part.

Stay tuned for the report on my express trip to Norway.

Livigno - St-Moritz - Les Arcs

I take advantage of this week off to come back on the last weeks. Let's take it chronologically and start with Livigno, Italia. After checking one of the most beautiful face of the FWQ thanks to a heli drop we had to change to plan B because of the weather and security conditions. It was a shame but ended well as I took the first place and my friend Chloe from les Arcs finished second.

We headed then to Saint-Moritz - Silvaplana for the EngadinSnow, an other 4* stage of the FWQ. After waiting 3 hours in the restaurant on top of the resort (that closed after lifting us up), fog and high wind vanished away and allow us to start the competition around 12h30. I miss the cut for the finals of one point by ending in 6th position. I was a bit disappointed but it doesn't work well all the time, that's life. My only regret is to not ski the Corvatsch North Face reserved for the finals.

We took quickly the decision toy head back straight to France. We have been travelling for 10 days and missed most of the big snowfalls from the beginning of February. On the road Chloe offers me to come visit her playground: Les Arcs. I jumped on the occasion. We started by a day on the resort. For the two days following the plan is to go ski touring with an overnight in the yurt lost in the middle of the mountain. The idea is to take it easy on the Sunday by reaching the yurt and do the summit the next day. I 'am pretty happy that I survived this week end. Touring is already demanding for me when I'am in shape but with a flue and the beginning of back-pain it wasn't easy.  Well I made it.

What's coming next? I am heading to Morgins this week-end for a 3*FWQ and then it is the big departure for 10 days travel in Slovaquia for the next 4* event.  The plan is to do some touring on the road and there to not just go and come back.

Verbier, Chamonix, Hochfugen-Austria

I finally find a moment to come back on the last few weeks of travelling. I was in Verbier for the first FWQ events of the season. A good warm up and nice results with 3 podiums in 3 competitions. Let's stay realistic they were minor contest and the road is still long. You probably already saw the results so let's take some time to see what happened ''behind the scene''.

Competition are the perfect opportunity to spend 10 days in this incredible resort that is Verbier. After a winter start pretty poor in snow it was enjoyable to ski some couloirs and steeper lines. Thanks Elizabeth Gerritzen and Adrien Truwant for the guiding tour. It is also this time of the season we start to see again the familiar faces of the FWQ athletes and also many people I had the occasion to meet during my travels.  I had  nice surprises and saw some friends I haven't cross the roads from many years. The big family of travelers and skiers.  Let's stop the sentimentalism and look at some pictures.

After Verbier I decided to stop on the road to see old friends from highschool in Chamonix. Thanks to them I had the opportunity to do my first touring day of the year.
The following article is in french but you can still look at the pictures:) http://communitytouringclub.com/premiere-freerando-saison-filles-chamonix/

I just came back from Austria where took place the first FWQ 4* event. I finish second , a first important result that confirm the Verbier ones. On other words I just had an awesome January month.

The old roomates from Whistler 5 years later; on the same spot: 2nd

Next stop Livigno, Italia and Engadin-St Moritz, Switzerland for 4* FWQ events.
