X Over Ride

X Over Ride

I was this weekend in Austria for my last competition of the season. I didn't had any chance to improve my ranking so I went there without any pressure. Let's go for a 48 hours two way trip.

Unfortunately I didn't score, facing my first and though last fall of the year. No regrets, I sent it but the snow conditions were really tricky. The 15-20 cm snow fall of the week got super wet with the spring temperature.  Running bib 18, the bottom of the face was in bad conditions given to the small avalanches of wet snow.

The contest season stop here for me with a good progression as I end 6th on the FWQ ranking. This is not enough to reach the Freeride World Tour but I am the first french female skier on the ranking.

I would like to thank all my partner: Eider, Volkl, Marker, Oakley, Le Clocher et Wap'o (restaurants Annecy-le-Vieux) and Myne, hand-made beanies for there support all season long.

FWQ Nendaz

FWQ*** Nendaz

I was last weekend in Switzerland for the Nendaz Freeride, a 3*event of the Freeride World Qualifier. For once this season, the competition format will be on 2 days, qualification with 2 run (Friday) and the final on Saturday.

This year I succeed to access the final, landing my two runs. All the girl skied clean and fast. Sarah Martinais sent a 360 but unfortunately didn't land her second run, she will not make it to the final.

After checking my line in the early light, It's time to start the hike which will take around an hour, the girl will go first. The conditions are perfect, blue sky and fresh snow on the top of the face. The girl skied fastly with fluidity and and we've seen some good size drop, the level is high. Tha't why I'am happy to end 3rd. Maud Malaise, the other french girl skiing the finals end 5th with a super fast line on the bottom part. Estelle Balet, on snowboards category realize a impressive drop with a perfect landing giving her the victory. She is now sure to participate to the Freeride World Tour 2014.

What happened this last month?

FWQ El Dorado Freeride, Andorra

I was two weeks ago in Andorra for the last 4* stop of the FWQ. The difficult conditions, cold, wind and the fact we had to wait a long time on the top of the venue, made me lost my concentration. I missed my line and went  down without jumping anything, I ended in the bottom of the ranking.

Even if I ended disapointed with myself, It was still  a great expérience. The traveller I am enjoyed discovering Andorra, its different landscape and its wonderfull parties.  A stop I will not miss next year even if it’s a long trip.

FWQ First Track Freeride, Chandolin

I was this week-end in Switzerland, Chandolin for the First Track Freeride, a 3* event. I ended 4th, a satisfying result as I missed the only cliff of my run because of a morning light inspection that didn’t help me catch the terrain movement. I wasn’t able to reach it. This stop proove me I have the ski I need now to work my inspection skills.

Here are the news from last week, which was intense as I was in Munich for ISPO (big trade show for sports brands), then to Innsbruck and finally in Hochfügen for an other stop of the Freeride World Qualifier, 4* event.

I start with the end, my 3rd place at the Bigmountain Hochfügen.

But let's come back to ISPO where I had to go for my school program, "Sport and Outdoor Industry Managment", EMLYON Business School. It was a great opportunity as a skier to be able to discover the biggest Trade Show for Action and Winter sports companies.

I think the picture speak for itself. In Seegrube, 10 min from Innsbruck. We got super lucky it was the only day we could go up given our tight schedule.

EngadinSnow

EngadinSnow

Sorry for the late update but I’ve been pretty busy lately, time been running so fast. I was, last week at the EngadinSnow event, a 4* contest of the Freeride World Qualifier.
The format of the contest change once again, it became a one day-one run event instead of two days competition including qualification and final on the famous North Face of Corvatsch.

I ended 7th which is a satisfying results given the fact that I haven’t found on my way down all the features I wanted to hit. The venue was shorter than we expected and included a lot of roll over. It’s overall a good experience as I succeed to develop a fast skiing in changing snow conditions going to fresh, icy, crusty and wind affected snow pack. I usually have hard time to push myself in those conditions, that’s why I’am happy with the results. The other French female skiers, Chloe Roux and Maud Malaise got respectively 8th and 9th, frenchies ended in the Top 10 in a competition where we where around 20 to take the start.

Beeing lucky to find a place to crash thanks to my travel buddies, Chloe and Nicolas Salencon, we decided to stay a few more days and enjoy the domain of Engadin- St Moritz. The resort is wind affected and we probably had better conditions back home, but It’s always a pleasure to discover new playground.

This is it for my adventures in Switzerland, I’ am preparing soon a new post about my stay in Munich for ISPO.

Le Grand Départ - Time to travel

Time to travel
After 5 days riding intensively, it’s time to pack. I’am leaving tomorrow, I will be heading to Switzerland for the next 4* event of the FWQ, holding in Engadin-St Moritz.

The trip will not stop there; I will go then to Munich for ISPO, mandatory stop for my school program. To finish, I will hit the road again, to Austria, for an other FWQ, 4* event, the BigMountain Hochfugen.

I’am though leaving France for a two weeks Road Trip along the Alps, with a French skier, Chloe Roux-Mollard, strong skier on the FWQ.

Having a light school schedule lately, I enjoyed having free time to visit a friend in Flaine. We had great weather and my ‘guide” brought me in one of the only spot still not tracked on the resort. Then it was time to come back home to enjoy the sun and a fresh snowfall in la Clusaz.

We had great conditions for the first major event of the season, 40 cm of fresh snow. Regarding the snow conditions, the format of the competition been changes, different face and a single day event, one run (instead of a 2 days event, qualification and final).

I finish 4th, a good beginning for the season. Hopefully it will allow me to access all the major events of the FWQ in Europe.

The draw gave me one of the first start number, 6, that permitted me,my run done, to enjoy the fresh snow and show the Balme area to Lorraine Hubber, a great person, winner of the contest.

Congratulations again to Mickael Bijasson, winner in the men category.

Next stop in two weeks at Engadin, St Moritz, Switzerland.
